The flag of the USA (United States of America) is made up of horizontal alternating stripes of red with white, 13 in all.  The canton (upper left hoist) of the flag is a blue rectangle with 50 white colored, five-pointed stars in rows alternating and staggered as 6 star and 5 star rows. Betsy Ross, anupholsterer working in Philadelphia, is believed to have created and sewn the first US flag according to legend. Now numbering 50, the stars on the flag represent the U.S. states. The 13 stripes represent the original thirteen colonies that rebelled against the Britain.
